On the 7th of July, A South African Women who has been battling against the horrendous plague of Human Trafficking and rescuing its victims, was featured in an international documentary for her life saving work.
A Scientology TV Network “VOICES FOR HUMANITY'' weekly series presenting heroic change makers from a variety of faiths, cultures and nations working to uplift their communities, premiered on Friday, a new documentary featuring human rights activist from Randfontein, Glory Matipile to millions of viewers across the globe. Premiering at Castle Kyalami in Midrand, many came to the documentary premiere in support of Glory and her courageous work.
With a depressed job market and high rate of unemployment, many South Africans are easily lured with potential jobs that turn out to be human trafficking traps. Of those ensnared, only one percent is ever rescued from this deadly market. Children and mostly young South African women are trafficked for sex slavery, drug trafficking and organ harvesting. Glory Matipile has made it her mission to rescue victims of human trafficking and to spread awareness and the knowledge of human rights in this field. Her work focuses on educating the youth of South Africa to the tricks and tactics of traffickers, helping prevent them from ever becoming victims.
A native of Gauteng, South Africa, Glory Matipile’s determination to become an activist in the battle against human trafficking was sparked by the disappearance of a girl in her neighborhood, who she grew up with. Setting out to find her friend, Glory uncovered the numerous scams and deceits traffickers employed to trap people and the dangers they posed to the country’s youth.
“I was deeply saddened by the disappearance of this girl and what really hit me was the fact that I knew this person and I grew up with her and all of a sudden she was trafficked. It got me wondering how deep this web of deceit goes. I spent countless nights thinking about how this happened in such a small community and how prevalent it must be in the big cities across South Africa,” said Glory.
It was at this point that the grief stricken but determined Glory decided to start her organization Baagi Ba South Africa (The Future of South Africa) to advocate for victims and find a way to rescue them from the shackles of modern day slavery. “I needed to stand up for my people,” continued Glory.
In search of effective methods to spread more awareness, she came across the Church of Scientology’s internationally acclaimed Human Rights Education Programme known as United For Human Rights. Adopting the community program, she used it to educate more youth across the country.
With her team of activists, Glory exposed a trafficking ring, saving hundreds of potential victims from being consigned to slavery. Glory and her organization have since grown and created a widespread presence in communities, in schools, and have brought the message of human rights to millions through South Africa.
