American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) Surgeons Participated in 2025 AACS Scientific Meeting, A Top National Cosmetic Surgery Conference

Palm Springs, CA—Numerous Diplomate surgeons from The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) participated in the highly anticipated American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) Scientific Meeting, which took place from February 20–25, 2025 in Palm Springs, CA. This annual conference, a hallmark event for the cosmetic surgery community, offered five days of cutting-edge lectures, interactive panel discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. Attendees convened to explore the latest innovations in cosmetic surgery techniques, share best practices, and collaborate on how to continue advancing patient care and safety.

According to Jeffrey A. Swetnam, MD, FAACS, FACS, President of the ABCS, “This annual conference presented an opportunity for cosmetic surgeons to network, present their cosmetic surgery techniques, and learn from one another. It’s always energizing to see so many talented surgeons come together, share ideas, and connect over our mutual passion for improving patient outcomes in cosmetic surgery.”

Dr. Swetnam also noted that the AACS and the ABCS play essential yet complementary roles in enhancing the field. “The AACS and ABCS serve complementary missions: the former is dedicated to education of cosmetic surgeons, both through world-class fellowship training and ongoing programs like the annual conference. The ABCS is dedicated to offering the public a certification they can trust when choosing a cosmetic surgeon who has undergone a rigorous vetting process.”

He added that one of the criteria for ABCS surgeons is post-residency fellowship training in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body; most ABCS surgeons complete this training through the AACS, making the organizations very closely tied in their missions. Further, many ABCS-certified surgeons serve as AACS fellowship directors.

The AACS’s commitment to surgeon education was evident throughout its comprehensive meeting agenda, which featured live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and numerous sessions on emerging trends. A broad roster of ABCS Diplomates shared their expertise and insights with fellow practitioners.

Sessions led by ABCS surgeons included topics such as body lift marking methods, facelift marking strategies, arm reduction design and methodology, eyelid surgery design, and innovative approaches to simultaneous breast lift and augmentation with implants. Technological innovations in cosmetic surgery were also explored, such as how AI can streamline workflow and boost profitability in a cosmetic surgery practice.

Reflecting on this robust lineup, Dr. Swetnam commented, “Whether it’s leveraging AI for better practice efficiency, refining body contouring approaches, or focusing on facial rejuvenation, this year’s presentations truly demonstrate the depth and diversity of expertise within the ABCS and the AACS.”

Additional contributions from ABCS surgeons addressed specific topics in patient care and practice management, such as infection control in breast implants, the B-Type mastopexy and reduction technique, methods of implant sizing, and how to navigate malpractice claims. A dynamic Controversies Panel focused on euthermia, VTE, TXA/hemostatic agents, pain mitigation, and anesthesia methods, featuring Dr. Jacob Haiavy, Dr. Samir Pancholi, and Dr. James Koehler.

Several ABCS Diplomates also served as moderators for a variety of panels, ensuring discussions remained focused and impactful.

Beyond the main stage, ABCS Diplomates participated in the popular “Coffee with the Experts” session, an informal gathering in the Exhibit Hall that encouraged short but meaningful conversations. Attendees learned from leaders on topics such as deep plane facelift, breast augmentation and lift, abdominoplasty, AACS Fellowship Programs, and the benefits of AACS membership, among others. According to Dr. Swetnam, “‘Coffee with the Experts’ is a truly unique opportunity to sit down with some of the brightest minds in cosmetic surgery. It encourages short but enlightening conversations, making it easy to connect and learn from experts in a more relaxed setting.”
