-- Newman University has announced the launch of seven new undergraduate degree programs designed to prepare students for careers in rapidly growing fields. The programs, developed through a strategic partnership with RIZE Education, will begin in Fall 2025 and feature a hybrid learning model that combines Newman's personalized campus experience with specialized online coursework.
The new programs include Applied Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity (concentration), Data Science, Game Development, Financial Planning, Neuroscience, and Nutrition—all fields experiencing significant growth and demand in today's job market.
"This partnership with RIZE Education represents Newman University's commitment to innovation and preparing our students for the careers of tomorrow," said Allen Stout, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Newman University. "These programs offer our students access to leading-edge curriculum, industry connections, and the skills employers are actively seeking, while maintaining the personal attention and values-based education that defines the Newman experience."
The innovative partnership allows Newman to rapidly expand its academic offerings in high-demand fields without the significant investment typically required to build such specialized programs from the ground up. The hybrid format combines on-campus instruction with selected online courses, providing students greater scheduling flexibility while maintaining the benefits of Newman's in-person educational experience.
David Cochran, Dean of the School of Business & Technology at Newman, who will oversee five of the new programs, emphasized their practical focus. "These programs sit at the intersection of academic excellence and workforce readiness," Cochran said. "With the hybrid format, students get the best of both worlds - the personal connections and campus experience that make Newman special, combined with access to nationwide experts in these specialized fields and greater scheduling flexibility."
Each program addresses specific workforce needs:
Applied Artificial Intelligence: Focuses on practical applications of AI across various industries, preparing students for careers in one of technology's fastest-growing segments
Cybersecurity: Offers specialized training in protecting digital systems and data, addressing critical shortages in qualified security professionals
Data Science: Equips students with advanced analytics and machine learning skills essential for making data-driven decisions across business sectors
Game Development: Combines creative design with technical skills for careers in gaming, simulation, and interactive media
Financial Planning: Aligns with Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board requirements, preparing students for careers in personal financial advising
Neuroscience: Appeals to students interested in medicine, psychology, and research, with applications in healthcare and biotechnology
Nutrition: Prepares students to address global health challenges through careers in clinical nutrition, public health, and wellness
The hybrid model typically includes approximately one online class per semester, allowing students to maintain engagement with Newman's campus community while benefiting from specialized instruction. This format is particularly beneficial for student-athletes and working students who need greater scheduling flexibility.
"What makes these programs unique is their career-focus and the built-in flexibility," added Stout. "Students benefit from both online learning and the rich in-person experience that makes Newman University special."
The partnership with RIZE Education, which works with over 100 institutions nationwide, allows Newman to leverage industry expertise and curriculum designed specifically for workforce preparation. This collaboration represents Newman's ongoing commitment to evolving its academic offerings to meet the changing needs of students and employers in Kansas and beyond.
The new academic programs are scheduled to begin classes in August 2025, pending final approval by the Higher Learning Commission.
