Renegade Wireline Service thrives through family values, teamwork, and employee ownership, driving growth and expansion in the oil and gas industry.
—
Many of today's large corporations do not operate within a culture of family values and teamwork, but rather a focus on the bottom line. However, the largest independent cased-hole services provider in the North American oil and gas industry has proven putting family first and treating all employees with respect can pay off in big ways.
Renegade Wireline Service, headquartered in Levelland, TX, has always encouraged employees to take control of their futures and contribute to the company’s vision. This culture was largely influenced by founders David Gray and Randy Cassady, who started Renegade in 2009 with only two trucks and a handful of employees.
According to small line supervisor Richard Flores, “There was a loyalty factor [here]. How [the owners] value their relationships in life correlates to how they run their business. We’re not just numbers to them, every one of us knows that at the drop of a hat, they’ll do whatever is necessary to help us through anything.”
Within five years of opening its doors, Renegade boomed purely through organic growth. President Matt Gray says, “The people we were hiring is what really made it grow." Because of this, Renegade has always been able to do what many corporate structures cannot: bring people together for a common cause.
The board of directors strongly believes Renegade's employees are the face of the company. For the past year, the company has operated with an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to ensure employees are financially protected now and in the future. According to the company's board, this move has not only changed the course of our company but has also strengthened the bond within our Renegade family.
By fostering a sense of community, Renegade Wireline Service continues to be an industry leader and constantly expand its service offerings. Once known primarily for its pump-down staging, the business now offers a wide range of solutions, including cased hole logging and providing equipment rentals to other companies and services.
Justin Foster, operations supervisor for the Renegade district in Andrews, summarized it best during an interview shortly after the ESOP began: “It really evolves around the team we have here, we have a great team of guys to help us all work together to make the company succeed.”
While the oil and gas industry sees its fair share of bad times, it's clear that Renegade is here to stay as long as they continue operating under their family values.
