Zhongwei, Ningxia, China - "Ever since the NIO charging and battery swap station was installed near my home, recharging or replacing the battery has become incredibly fast!" said Mr. Yong, a new energy vehicle (NEV) owner in Zhongwei’s Shapotou District. Recently, at the NIO station located at the Shapotou District National Fitness Center, he completed a full battery swap in under four minutes—an experience that left him deeply impressed.
The facility, officially launched into operation, is the first battery swap station established in the Zhongwei region. During construction, State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company worked closely with the investment and construction teams to overcome on-site challenges, ensuring simultaneous completion of internal and external engineering works. This helped guarantee a reliable and uninterrupted power supply for the station.
The site features eight direct current (DC) fast-charging piles, each capable of delivering up to 120 kW per hour. Its integrated battery swap system allows for complete battery exchanges within just 3 to 5 minutes. Equipped with a smart charging information platform and a remote monitoring system, the station enables 24/7 real-time management of charging equipment and user activity. This infrastructure lays a solid foundation for the expansion of the NEV market in Shapotou District while providing a dependable energy solution for urban development and green transportation.
With the rapid growth of NEV ownership in Zhongwei, the demand for charging facilities has risen accordingly. To support this green shift, the company has intensified its service efforts, closely monitoring weather conditions and maintaining the operational integrity of local charging and swap stations. Periodic safety inspections and patrols are conducted across bus depots and public parking areas. Key distribution lines and facilities are routinely checked with infrared thermography to ensure the safety and reliability of charging services.
Moreover, the company proactively identifies and eliminates fire hazards by inspecting and clearing unauthorized flammable materials or debris from charging areas—ensuring safe and seamless station operation.
Looking forward, State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company will continue expanding the power infrastructure needed for charging and swapping stations, in line with government directives. The company plans to strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant departments, streamline internal approval processes, and proactively develop supportive power grids ahead of demand. A dedicated fast-track service for ultra-fast charging and battery swap projects will be established, ensuring the timely rollout of new stations. These efforts will provide residents with convenient and reliable charging services, driving the future of green mobility.
