The delegation of Kenya and UNFPA China representatives visited the Art Exhibition Hall, YIT Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bazaar, Science and Technology Creation Works Exhibition, and Students Clubs Activities Exhibition, etc. Either the handicrafts full of traditional Chinese elements or the fashionable and trendy art and design works, represented by the colourful homemade hand strings, lifelike tree carvings, exquisite hairpins, multicoloured flower arrangements, attracted all the attention of the foreign guests. They praised the talents and creativity of the young students in YIT without reservation.

Anders said, the visit is an exploratory and cooperative trip among the Kenyan government, international organizations and university partners. He believes that innovation in education is very important. “I am willing to join forces with experts from various fields such as youth development, education affairs, population development, health and science and technology to promote more China-Africa youth cooperation projects and join hands with them to create a better future,” he said.

“Kenya’s infrastructure projects such as highways have received a lot of help from China, which gives us more confidence to promote more youth projects between the two countries,” said Raymond. He believes that, under China’s long-term assistance, it is expected to create conditions for the China-Kenya youth, promote the in-depth integration of the youth from the two countries, and to further solve employment problems and sustainable development in Kenya through the launch of “Centre of Excellence and Innovation” for the youth and more sustainable cooperation.

Ira Ovesen introduced the important results generated by the exchanges and cooperation with the teachers and students of YIT since 2018, and praised the performance of Chen Kaixuan, a graduate of YIT, who is working in the UNFPA China. She believed that the language among the youth is “innovation and creativity”. The UNFPA China insists on working with young people, empowering them and helping them open their eyes, step out of the country and become better talents.

Wu Wenyan, the Vice President of YIT, said that in the context of the successful convening of the 2024 FOCAC Summit, this activity closely follows the central idea of South-South cooperation of the United Nations, keeps in steps with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal to elevate China-Africa relations to strategic partnerships and establish an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and promotes the establishment of a broader partnership between YIT and Kenya. It also enhances YIT students’ opportunities to participate in international exchanges and their expression abilities in the global discourse, strengthens their youth leadership and advocacy skills, and promotes peer-to-peer psychological support exchanges and learning, said Wu.
