“Bringing You to China” Project Successfully Concludes: Young Leaders Gather in Beijing to Experience Chinese Culture

By: Get News

On April 27th, the closing ceremony of the inaugural session of the "Bringing You to China" project landed successfully in Chaoyang District, Beijing. Five young leaders representing Malaysia, Austria, France, Spain, Kyrgyzstan, and Denmark, along with senior alumni from AIESEC China, gathered together to celebrate the completion of a week-long intercultural exchange during the project's closing ceremony and the Earth Village World Cultural Party.

The cross-cultural exchange roundtable session at the closing ceremony was hosted by Huang Ernuo, Senior Manager of Online Education and International Cooperation at Tsinghua University, Assistant Secretary-General of the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance, and Global Communication Ambassador of Tsinghua University. During this session, Huang Ernuo invited the young leaders to share their impressions and experiences of China.

Ahmed, representing AIESEC Kyrgyzstan and AIESEC Denmark, shared his thoughts on his experience in China:

"One of the most impactful questions posed by the host was, as young representatives, what experiences do we take away from our participation in the 'Bringing You to China' project? My response was that people often tend to generalize the characteristics of a culture based on others' experiences or biases, which is a narrow view. Being in a country with a diverse community like China, I would advise young people around me that to truly understand China, or any culture for that matter, we must not only observe with our eyes and listen with our ears but also immerse ourselves in it. Engage in face-to-face conversations with locals, understand their culture. This not only breaks down our own biases but also helps locals gain a deeper understanding of our culture behind us.”

Another representative, Rana from AIESEC Austria, responded: "When I return, I will use my personal experiences to promote global youth exchange, allowing people to see and hear the real stories from China. At the same time, I hope to break all the stereotypes they have about China. It is a country worth learning about and deserves everyone’s attention and understanding."

The "Bringing You to China" project, initiated by AIESEC China Mainland and supported by GOGOLOCAL in operational landing, aims to provide influential young leaders worldwide with firsthand experiences of authentic China through cultural, technological, and educational exchanges.

During the past week, the five young leaders visited Tsinghua University's innovative talent discovery and education platform, "Tsinghua Xlab," where they discussed with Xlab experts how to utilize artificial intelligence technology to benefit the hearing-impaired community.

Additionally, they actively participated in the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum, the Decade of Science for Sustainable Development Forum, and the 2024 Global Forum on Women in Sci-tech Innovation, engaging in in-depth exchanges with experts from home and abroad and accepting interviews from multiple TV stations and media outlets such as Hebei TV and China Daily.

Moreover, they were invited to visit China's first innovative 4-year micro high school, "Exploring Moon Academy," and engage in discussions with education experts on the differences and similarities between Chinese and foreign education systems, as well as the opportunities and challenges of innovative education on the local front.

At the design thinking workshop, several representatives collaborated with AIESEC members from Tsinghua University and Beijing Foreign Studies University to design projects and cultures that promote cross-cultural exchange. They also toured historical landmarks such as the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, as well as iconic architectural wonders like the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube, experiencing firsthand the profound history of China and gaining insights into its past, present, and future.

The successful execution of this project has not only enhanced the understanding and awareness of China among the participating young leaders but also laid an important foundation for promoting friendship and cooperation between Chinese and foreign youth.
