Company completes accelerated integration amid heightened employer demand for advanced primary care
Marathon Health, a leading provider of advanced primary care for employers and unions across the U.S., today announced the successful completion of the company’s merger integration – just one year following its merger with Everside Health.
The merger, announced in February 2024, joined two leaders in advanced primary care – to deliver primary care with value-based payment and integrated with mental health therapy, occupational health, high-value specialist referrals, and more – for now more than 3 million covered lives, through more than 750 health centers across 41 states and virtual care nationwide. Up from 2.5 million covered lives across 680 health centers in the year since merging.
The company’s category of employer-sponsored direct primary care (DPC) is one experiencing explosive growth as employers seek substantive cost savings without further cost shifting. Employer sponsors offering a DPC benefit increased by 800% from 2017 to 2022, according to Hint Health’s latest Employer Trends in Direct Primary Care.
“At the heart of advanced primary care and the results it drives, is a consistent and continuous experience for providers and patients alike,” said Dr. Jeff Wells, CEO and cofounder of Marathon Health. “To realize the potential of our expansive footprint, for the organizations and members we serve, we completed a rapid and responsible integration of our teams, operations, and systems – including our EHR and other care enablement technology.”
In the past year, Marathon Health successfully migrated 368 health center locations and 1,290 clinical teammates, to Ignite — a single technology platform for Marathon Health’s care teams, patients, and clients. Over the same period, the company achieved 96% client retention (stable year-over-year) and 90% provider retention (improved year-over-year).
Wells continued: “We’re proud of the integration’s pace, and especially, the faith and patience of our clients and other partners throughout. We also recognize that ensuring first-rate operations and high-quality care is work that is continuous.”
“With this transition, our clinicians are all able to speak the same ‘language,’ getting patients the care they need – surely and swiftly,” said Dr. Meaghann Bernardy, national medical director at Marathon Health. “Speed of integration was crucial given what a unified and connected practice means for our patients and their trust in Marathon Health as their foremost provider of care.”
A leader in personalized, affordable advanced primary care and occupational health, Marathon Health’s mission is to increase employee access to high-quality care while helping sponsors lower healthcare spend, by an average of $1,800 per year per engaged member.
