Gift Will Support Children and Family Programs Including Wildfire Relief Efforts
New York Yankee veteran Marcus Stroman and his HDMH (Height Doesn’t Measure Heart) Foundation will contribute $50K to support the community-serving work of Assistance League® of Los Angeles (the “League”). The funds will be utilized to support the League’s programs to improve the lives of impoverished children and families throughout Los Angeles, including those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. In addition to the monetary contribution, Stroman’s luxury fashion label, Shugo, will donate more than $200,000 worth of brand-new clothing, including jackets, hoodies, tee-shirts, and knit hats.
The New York Yankees pitcher, who has a long history of supporting worthy organizations through his HDMH Foundation, is among those directly affected by the recent Southern California wildfires. Stroman lost his LA home last month, and the two-time All-Star has urged fans to donate to charitable organizations that serve at-risk youth and families in these communities.
"With Los Angeles being my second home, I was determined to identify an organization where my donation would make a meaningful impact in the wake of the recent wildfires," said Stroman. "It was fitting to align with Assistance League of Los Angeles, an organization that has continued to provide resources to youth and families affected by the wildfires in the LA area. I am confident that my donation will go a long way within the organization as they continue to distribute essential items at schools and organizations to those most in need."
Assistance League of Los Angeles annually provides new clothes, shoes, backpacks, hygiene products, undergarments, socks, hoodies, books and school supplies to more than 10,000 underserved and at-risk schoolchildren grades TK-5 throughout greater Los Angeles. By delivering these resources to the city’s most vulnerable children, the League improves school attendance, promotes learning, and offers students a greater chance to succeed. In addition, due to the devastating LA wildfires the League is stepping up to serve those affected with vital resources and support. Across their programs, the League will directly support nearly 22,000 of LA’s most impoverished children in 2025.
"We are honored to have Marcus Stroman support the work we do to serve children and families in Los Angeles," said Greg Kovacs, Assistance League of Los Angeles CEO. "This is a really special gift from Marcus, as he personally experienced significant losses due to the LA wildfires, along with thousands of other Los Angeles residents. Prior to this disaster there were already more than 17,000 children in the Los Angeles Unified School District designated homeless, and 28,000 LA children in the foster system, so the wildfires have put tremendous additional strain on our community. The need, and the League’s urgent mission is vital now more than ever.”
