Turning ultra-efficient edge AI into real products at scale
femtoAI, the pioneer of ultra-efficient edge AI computing, today announced a year of unprecedented momentum and transformative growth in 2025. Key milestones include shipping over 100,000 units of its groundbreaking Sparse Processing Unit (SPU) AI accelerator, successfully closing a new funding round, launching a rapidly growing developer community, and strategically expanding its executive leadership team to drive future scale.
To deliver on the promise of AI on every device, femtoAI is addressing the critical need for high performance, low latency, and energy efficiency within an extremely small footprint. This innovative approach enables advanced AI capabilities on the tiniest devices, including True Wireless Stereo (TWS)/Open-Wear Stereo (OWS) earbuds, wearables, smart glasses, hearing aids and digital appliances. This significant growth highlights the strong market demand for faster, smaller, and more efficient AI deployments across the edge.
"We started femtoAI with the belief that AI should be everywhere, not just data centers," said Sam Fok, CEO and co-founder of femtoAI. "The momentum we see today validates that the world is ready for a more nimble, efficient AI architecture. We aren't just hitting targets; we’re redefining what’s possible at the edge."
Highlights of femtoAI’s 2025 include:
- Commercial Traction: Hearing aid wholesaler NewSound is now shipping its AI OTC hearing aid, powered by femtoAI and available for purchase on Amazon.
- Technical Breakthrough: femtoAI successfully shipped the femtoAI SPU-001, which sets a new standard by delivering 100x lower power consumption, 10x smaller silicon footprint and 10x faster integration.
- Unique IP: The company’s patent portfolio continues to expand with innovations in sparsity, inspired by neuromorphic computing, to push the frontier across the platform.
- Strategic Partnerships: A key partnership with the EDGE AI FOUNDATION allows femtoAI to expand its global thought leadership. As part of the NVIDIA Inception Program, femtoAI trains its proprietary models on the latest NVIDIA platform.
- Global Recognition: femtoAI won the IC Taiwan Grand Challenge in September and received the Startup Terrace Award at InnoVEX in May.
- Team: femtoAI expanded its engineering and sales teams, including the strategic appointments of Scott Reid as Chief AI Officer and Bill Hoppin as Chief Business Officer.
