Citizens Against Government Waste Names Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer January 2022 Porker of the Month

Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) our January 2022 Porker of the Month for misleading Americans by claiming the Build Back Better Act (BBBA) will fight inflation and lower costs.

In December 2021, Senator Schumer claimed in a tweet that passing the BBBA will fight inflation, lower costs, raise wages, and create jobs. However, due to the trillions of dollars already passed by Congress, inflation is now the highest it has been in 31 years and prices of essential items are soaring. Oil and gas prices are up 58 percent, used car prices are up 31 percent, and meat prices are up 16 percent. According to the Congressional Budget Office, passing the $4.9 trillion BBBA will add another $3 trillion to the national debt, which is already at $29 trillion. And the unprecedented cost and scope of the social programs in the BBBA would make tens of millions of Americans more reliant on Uncle Sam for government handouts.

CAGW President Tom Schatz said, “The evidence is right in front of him, yet Leader Schumer continues to claim President Biden’s sweeping social spending bill will ‘cut costs.’ The BBBA is full of regressive taxes that will further burden Americans who are already suffering from inflation. The racial increase in the size, scope, and power of the federal government and impingement on freedom and liberty in the bill is a trojan horse for turning America into a socialist country. The BBA will wreak havoc on the economy and unnecessarily increase the national debt. Senator Schumer is trying to fool taxpayers, but he is the real fool because the Build Back Better Act is destructive and costly and must not be passed by Congress. For trying to force Americans deeper into debt, Majority Leader Schumer was an easy choice for CAGW’s January Porker of the Month.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. For more than two decades, Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers and government officials who have shown a blatant disregard for the taxpayers.
