According to recent statistics by the Ohio Department of Health, in 2019 there were a total of 973 reported new HIV diagnoses in the state of Ohio. A total of 24,558 persons are currently living with the virus, and the majority of diagnoses of HIV infections were and continue to be among males. Since 2015, the rate of male diagnoses was more than four times higher than the rate of females, meaning that approximately 80% of persons living with a diagnosed HIV infection are male. The rate of new diagnoses among blacks/ African-Americans was over seven times higher than that in whites.
While new HIV rates are seeming to plateau around 31% in Ohio, the need for access and education around quality of healthcare is more pertinent than ever. Statistics from the Ohio Department of Health also reveal that individuals between the ages of 20-29 are highest at risk.
"I am pleased to say Dr. Beesley is now, not only a part of the AHF family, but also our Columbus clinics medical director. Dr. Beesley comes with a wealth of knowledge in HIV care and a respectable clinical background for Ohioans. His clinical team includes 2 Nurse Practitioners, Erin Crespo and Abigail McGuire, and a dedicated office staff to cover all HIV-related care ensuring patients receive the care they deserve.” - AHF Midwest Regional Director Staci Mullins.
Knowing Dr. Beesley’s strong rapport and connection to his patients, it is AHF’s goal to not only continue a specialized quality of care for patients who are currently in treatment, but also engage those who are seeking healthcare, and encourage previous patients to get back in care.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, currently provides medical care and/or services to over one million people in 45 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region and Eastern Europe.
