Through an innovative process, they have achieved the remarkable feat of converting 100% of Sacha Inchi seeds into powder.
This breakthrough has led to the development of a new product called "bienestarina mas nuestra," which is being distributed by the Colombian government to low-income families through the ICBF Intituto colombiano de bienestra Familiar.
To support the goal of achieving food sovereignty outlined in the 2022-2026 National Development Plan "Colombia, Power of Life", the mass distribution of Bienestarina® Más Nuestra has commenced. This high-nutrient product, made with yuca and sacha inchi, has already undergone rigorous testing for distribution in various regions. In collaboration with Ingredion Colombia SA, GMS sold 30 kilos of sacha inchi flour in November 2023 and commenced production tests, followed by further stability tests to obtain the required health registration issued by Invima.
Subsequently, a large-scale purchase of sacha inchi flour began to ensure the continuous production of Bienestarina® Más Nuestra. This initiative has garnered significant support from the Government of Colombia, with plans to purchase 12 tons of Sacha Inchi flour monthly in September, October, and November 2024. Notably, Ingredion Colombia SA also purchased 1,200 kilograms of sacha inchi four from the Cooperativa Multiactiva de Agronegocios del Putumayo (Coomultiagrop). Through the COOMULTIAGROP cooperative, the product is sourced from 700 farmers in Putumayo, who have transitioned from coca leaves to sacha inchi. These farmers were identified through programs led by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, highlighting the positive impact on local communities.
GMS has partnered with Ingredion to fulfill the Colombian government's requirement of 38 tons and has obtained approval to manufacture 100% sacha inchi for the ICBF. The future delivery of Bienestarina® with cassava and sacha inchi is projected in various regions, emphasizing the widespread reach of this impactful initiative.
