International Festival of Young Excellences: nobility, art, engineering, and music meet in Trieste

The International Festival of Young Excellences, dedicated to talented individuals under the age of 29 from around the world, has become an important event celebrating culture, ethics, tradition and innovation.

It is an event, organized by non-profits Atelier di Creatività and Desteproduction.com, where the descendants of the noble families of the Dukes Vignoli D'Este and the Archdukes Habsburg-Lorraine, great patrons who made Europe beautiful in the past centuries, meet to reward, support and recognise the Excellence of the new generations.

The chosen city for this meeting was Trieste, a place that still witnesses the grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the birthplace of Isabella and Costanza Vignoli D'Este, the two sisters who conceived the Festival delle Giovani Eccellenze (Festival of Young Excellences) and implemented it with their nonprofit association “Atelier di Creatività”, which has been organising cultural events with rare tenacity for thirty years, which have not been showing vanity but the deep substance of true talents.

During four days, from 4 to 7 September, Trieste was lit up with youth, art and genius. Young people arrived from Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Thailand: painters, musicians, engineers, photographers and singers. All under 29, all determined to transform their gifts and talents into the common good.

A cosmopolitan atmosphere worthy of the great city of Trieste, an important port of the Habsburg Empire.

The exhibition and awards ceremony

The Festival of Young Excellence opened with the exhibition Galoppi di Libertà (Gallops of Freedom) at the Galleria Fenice. The title evokes movement, impetuosity, and the need to break down barriers and patterns.

The awards ceremony, held at the Tartini Conservatory, was a succession of applause and artistic successes.

The Fran Venturini children's choir, conducted by Susanna Zeriali, moved the audience with songs in several languages. Archduke Sandor Habsburg-Lorraine presented each child with a medal from the Austria Imperialis historical association.

The duo formed by the talented pianist Enrico Bortolotti from Gorizia and Iana Rata from Moldova, with her powerful and disciplined voice, were awarded prizes by the German conductor Johannes Skudlik.

Luigi Fiore, a young Sicilian and winner of a PhD scholarship of national interest, enchanted the audience with a project focused on the practice of “keyboard conducting”, in which the soloist plays and conducts simultaneously. Fiore was awarded by film stylist Patrizia Farinelli, who also dresses Hollywood celebrities.

A happy encounter between music and fashion.

The 16-year-old German violinist Veronika Schaetz was extraordinary; Paganini's music was not simply virtuosity in her fingers, but pure emotion. She received the Award of Excellence from the Honorary Consul of Austria, Dr.a Strolego, confirming the bond between Trieste and Vienna.

Then it was time for the great success of twelve-year-old Matteo Roncoloni, a child from the province of Rome, who wrote a song for peace. He was awarded by Maestro Romolo Gessi, who invited him to study orchestral conducting with him.

A few days later, Matteo received the “Fiamma della Pace” (Flame of Peace) organization founded by Archduchess Herta Margarete Habsburg

The large-screen projection of photographs by Aran Cosentino, a 22-year-old from Friuli who is committed to protecting nature, demonstrated the artist's great sensitivity to the audience in the hall. Cosentino was awarded a prize by the head of UNESCO in Udine, Dr Renata D'Aronco.

Izabela Kliska: thanks to her love of painting and fashion, managed to overcome serious health problems and become a model and painter who brings joy with her art. She was awarded by Professor Paolo Quazzolo of the Department of Humanities at the University of Trieste.

The Award for Excellence in Painting, intended for the 20-year-old Uzbek artist Hasan Eshboltayev, was accepted by Aida Abdullaeva, organiser of Italian-Uzbek events for the Angeli association.

Meanwhile, for Thai artist Narueporn Klebkeaw, the Award for Excellence in Painting was accepted by her compatriot Dr Sophida Chanvichai, an event organiser based in Vienna.

The paintings and photographs by artists Narueporn Klebkeaw, Hasan Eshboltayev, Izabela Kliska, Aran Cosentino and Andreas Martin Fedrigo (out of competition) will remain on display in Udine (Italy) until the end of October.

From art to technology: the engineers of the UniTS Racing Team captivated the audience by presenting their low environmental impact car.

It was a dream come true to see how 90 young people managed to cooperate with each other, organising the mechanics, aerodynamics, economics, marketing and communications departments in an optimal way. A small, ecofriendly, high-performing and successful 21st-century Bauhaus in Trieste. Architect Massimiliano Babich and engineer Peter Cabanik presented the Excellence Awards to the three directors: Team Leader: Francesco Sonego; Economic Director: Matteo Kaliger; Technical Director: Enea Gherdol.

Immediately afterwards, several members of the team took to the stage for a group photo and to collect the award for the entire staff, which will remain on display at the University's Faculty of Engineering.

The lifetime achievement award went to Claudio Mangini, animal trainer and artist: his short film Mai Solo (Never Alone), a tribute to the secret language and sensitivity of dogs, moved the audience in the theatre.

The gala and the Central European echo

The gala dinner at the Piccola Fenice evoked the grandeur of the D'Este and Habsburg dynasties. Knights and Dames of the Order of St Stanislaus formed a guard of honour to welcome the young winners. An entrance into society amid gold and burgundy cloaks, which created excitement among the young people, who felt welcomed with all the honours reserved for Excellencies.

The “Trieste Ottocento” company made the evening unforgettable with historical dances, involving the audience in wonderful waltzes.

The guided tour

Finally, on Sunday morning, it was time for a guided tour of Habsburg Trieste, in honour of Archduke Sandor Habsburg-Lorraine, descendant of Empress Maria Theresa, who made Trieste an elegant imperial city. The tour was masterfully conducted by surveyor Paladini from the Technical Drawing Archive of the Municipality of Trieste, who fascinated the group of guests with his passion for history and ancient anecdotes.

Thus, thanks to the Atelier di Creatività and the constant commitment of the group Desteproduction.com, Trieste has once again become a crossroads of cultures, a hotbed of talent, and the moral capital of Central Europe. A festival of authentic beauty, a bridge between generations and hope for the future.
