Applications: 1. The use of sodium hydrosulfite is very wide, mainly including reduction dyeing, reduction cleaning, printing and decolorization in the textile industry, as well as bleaching of silk, wool, nylon and other fabrics. Since sodium hydrosulfite does not contain heavy metals, the color of the bleached fabric is very bright and not easy to fade.

2. Sodium hydrosulfite can also be used for food bleaching, such as gelatin, sucrose, candied fruit, etc., as well as soap, animal (plant) oil, bamboo, porcelain clay bleaching.

3. In the field of organic synthesis, sodium hydrosulfite is used as a reducing agent or bleaching agent in the production of dyes and medicines, especially as a bleaching agent for wood pulp papermaking.

4. Sodium hydrosulfite can reduce many heavy metal ions such as Pb2+, Bi3+, etc. to metals in water treatment and pollution control, and can also be used to preserve food and fruits.

Danger Flammable: Sodium dithionite is a first-class flammable item when wet according to national standards. It will react violently when it comes into contact with water, producing flammable gases such as hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide, and releasing a large amount of heat. The reaction equation is: 2Na2S2O4+2H2O+O2=4NaHSO3, and the products further react to produce hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. Sodium dithionite has an intermediate valence state of sulfur, and its chemical properties are unstable. It shows strong reducing properties. When it encounters strong oxidizing acids, such as sulfuric acid, perchloric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid and other strong acids, the two will undergo a redox reaction, and the reaction is violent, releasing a large amount of heat and toxic substances. Its reaction equation is: 2Na2S2O4+4HCl=2H2S2O4+4NaCl

Spontaneous combustion: Sodium dithionite has a spontaneous combustion point of 250℃. Due to its low ignition point, it is a first-class flammable solid (the ignition point is generally below 300℃, and the flash point of low melting point is below 100℃). It is very easy to burn when exposed to heat, fire, friction and impact. The combustion speed is fast and the fire hazard is high. The gas hydrogen sulfide gas produced during the combustion process may also cause a larger combustion area, increasing its fire hazard.

Explosion: Sodium dithionite is a light yellow powdery substance. The powdery substance is easy to form an explosive mixture in the air. Dust explosion occurs when encountering a fire source. The mixture of sodium dithionite and most oxidants, such as chlorates, nitrates, perchlorates, or permanganates, is explosive. Even in the presence of water, it explodes after a slight friction or impact, especially after thermal decomposition, the flammable gas generated after the reaction reaches the explosion limit, then its explosion hazard is greater.
